Screech Agro

May 30, 2008 at 10:30 am (Game Design, Hunter, Pets, Warcraft, World of Warcraft) (, , )

Keeping things short and sweet for those with ADHD:

  • Screech generates about 128 threat in addition to threat from damage
  • The 128 threat is not divided between mobs affected by the debuff, each gets the full effect.
  • That’s crazy.
  • If you’re trying to maintain agro, you should turn off claw and/or bite and only use screech.
  • If you’re trying to maximize damage, you should turn off screech and use claw instead.
  • There seems to be some scaling of screeches damage…

And now for what’s sure to be a wall of text and math.

Pet Review – Carrion Bird

May 30, 2008 at 9:07 am (Guide, Hunter, Pets, Warcraft, World of Warcraft) (, , )

Finished up reviewing the Carrion family last night. I didn’t expect it to be so high, but the question I had to ask myself is “would I recommend it over my raptor?” Definite, “yes” there. Again this is mainly due to screech and it’s agro. I did some testing on that last night too, but that’s for another post. Needless to say, the numbers follow.

It’s a Post About Nothing

May 29, 2008 at 1:44 pm (Warcraft, World of Warcraft)

Still haven’t had much a chance to play lately. My wife is on an easy month which means she’s got a laundry list of things that we’ve neglected around the house. Yes, laundry is on the list. However, tonight is my designated night off so I should have Carrion Birds up for review tomorrow, AND I will officially do the testing to see how much threat screech’s debuff generates. I’m thinking wolves will be next, after I go back and officially see if gore’s double damage causes frenzy/FI procs. I know it’s not supposed to, but I swear it did when I tested it last.

And now for the most important question: Where should I nab food to eat before setting up my laptop at Starbucks?

  • Arby’s
  • McDonalds
  • Taco Bell
  • Q’doba
  • Boston Market
  • Burger King
  • Wendy’s
  • DQ
  • KFC
  • Fazoli’s

Also ZOMG streakers!!11111ONE!!!

I Have a Theory

May 23, 2008 at 2:25 pm (World of Warcraft)

I think we’re already level 80.

Did you notice that each level took about twice as much exp from 60-70 as it should have?  Did you notice that new spells were available each level where before it was only every 2 levels?  Did you notice your stats pretty much double (or more) from 60-70 while the previous double was from 40-60?

I’m not sure why they did it, but there’s lots of little evidence that 60-70 is actually a compressed 60-80.  Maybe it would have been too easy to level… I think I went up 2 levels each zone I was in.  Going up 4 levels a zone may have made them seem long and tedious or maybe that levels didn’t have enough value.  Maybe not compressing the levels would not make a noticeable enough difference between 70 and 60.  Maybe they wanted to make more zones accessible sooner (you can go to Zan right now at 60 and do fine, but if the mobs were 64-68 it would be a much scarier place).

Doesn’t really matter much in the end, I just look forward to being level 120, I mean 80.

Get Me Off

May 23, 2008 at 12:33 pm (PvP, Warcraft, World of Warcraft)

Good grief do I hate my server.

My wife works 80hrs a week, which leaves me at home with our 2yo alone most nights. Once I finally get her to bed there’s lots of picking up to do before I can actually spend time goofing off. This usually means I get an hour or two to play before I get tired and go to bed. My wife has graciously given me one night a week where I can get out of the house and not worry about her, my daughter, or the house chores, and just enjoy myself.

Last night was my night off.

Summing Up My Trees

May 21, 2008 at 1:40 pm (Game Design, Hunter, Warcraft, World of Warcraft) (, , )

Ok hopefully you’ve looked at the talents and descriptions I’ve made. I’m sure some of my choices are questionable, but here are some of my philosophies.

Proposed WotLK Hunter Talents (Mark II)d

May 21, 2008 at 1:09 pm (Game Design, Hunter, Warcraft, World of Warcraft) (, )

Beast Mastery

Qualifier: None of these are ALPHA talents, they are my own inventions of imagination.

BM actually still has some issues. First off, it has some PvP issues since it relies heavily on steady shot which can be pushedback. Second, almost every kind of improvement has already been made to the pet (HP, armor, damage, crit, haste, frenzy, hit, dodge) so there’s not much left… or is there?

Tree Again.

Proposed WotLK Hunter Talents (Mark II)c

May 21, 2008 at 1:06 pm (Game Design, Hunter, Warcraft, World of Warcraft) (, )

Marksman

Qualifier: None of these are ALPHA talents, they are my own inventions of imagination.

IMO Marksman hunters should deal the most damage, use the most mana, and when taking damage, die the fastest. Since hunters can’t fit any more shots into a rotation, the remaining way to enhance them is by boosting what they’re already doing. They also don’t have much raid utility at the moment so I’d like to rectify that.

Tree is here.

Warning: Incoming Posts

May 21, 2008 at 1:00 pm (World of Warcraft)

Kind of silly to have a post that tells everyone you’re going to be posting, but that’s the kind of guy I am.

I made 2 additional posts adding MM and BM to my tree, and rather than post them on thurs and fri as I was going to, I’d rather just do it now since I like how they turned out and alpha stuff is coming out, but I wouldn’t know anything about that :). All of the tree links in the posts go to the same tree since I found it to be annoying to make one for each post.

A quick pet review note, I did tame a dire raven and I’m working him up to 70. He is known as ‘ICanHasDruid.’
